A classic South Persian carpet from the Zagros mountains area, possibly woven by a Khamseh lady. The central vertical axis is in the shape of three interconnected medallions, bracketed by an outline of a wave on either side. The entire field is dotted with iconography representing various floral and zoomorphic symbols. The remarkably attractive and unique feature is the wide ivory border which is filled with fan-tailed birds, probably dancing peacocks, in various shapes and colours.
