A handsome Caucasian carpet possibly woven in the region around the Karabagh (black garden) area between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The design is composed of vertical shawl stripes, alternating between broad and narrow vertical bands, each of which is adorned with paisley ‘boteh’ in a range of beautiful colours. A wide major border, drawn in the same large scale as the central panel, surrounds the outer perimeter of the carpet. The border is filled with large-scale colourful rosettes.
