A rare ‘compartment’ Kazak from the Caucasus mountains area between Armenia and Georgia. The central panel of the carpet has been sectioned off into six and a half rectangular panels, each of which contains a dominant medallion edged with bird heads iconography. Each rectangular panel section has been woven with a different base colour. A magnificent ivory-white wide border filled with crab icons surrounds the field and is itself surrounded by a narrow reciprocal sawtooth border in green and red colours.
