Donated generously by Lekha Poddar, philanthropist and art collector

Together with her son Anupam, Lekha harnessed her passion for art by establishing Devi Art Foundation in 2005. The Foundation has a collection of contemporary art from South Asia. It also has a collection of vernacular art and textiles.

"Kantha" refers to both the style of running stitch, as well as the finished cloth. One of the oldest forms of embroidery originating from India, its origins can be traced back to the pre-Vedic age. This exquisite Kantha textile which explores the local flora and fauna is almost twelve years old and is from the personal collection of Lekha Poddar
