Maharashtra-born B Vithal started sketching in his childhood by creating representations of Hindu deities-a preoccupation that continued in his later years. He was an alumnus of the Sir J J School of Art, where he met his future wife, the artist B Prabha. Vithal's early career designing event stages provided experience with diverse mediums ranging from graphite and watercolour to bronze and fibreglass, which was evident in his paintings and sculptures. As seen in the present lot, his works were strongly inspired by Indian mythology and philosophy, and often depicted human and animal forms.
