Gajalakshmi is one of eight aspects of the goddess Lakshmi, and common iconography shows her seated on a lotus flanked by elephants (gaja) on both sides. Seated in the Padmasana posture, she has four arms - with the upper arms carrying a lotus in each hand, while the lower arms form the abhya mudra (to denote fearlessness or protection) and varada mudra (symbolising the granting of boons). A common figure in Hindu and Buddhist culture, the Gajalakshmi - as most aspects of the goddess - represents prosperity, good luck and abundance.
