YEH HAI BOMBAY MERI JAAN (11 NOVEMBER 2025)

An Auction Celebrating the City’s Spirit, Spectacle, and Memory.

From its origins as a modest archipelago of seven islets to its rise as the “Urbs Prima in Indis”, Bombay has long fascinated artists, travellers, and chroniclers. Spanning two centuries of visual history, Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan brings together fifty-eight rare prints, maps, books, and photographs that chart the making of India’s most cosmopolitan city. From eighteenth-century fort views and nineteenth-century architectural lithographs to intimate studio portraits from Kalbadevi and Byculla, the auction traces Bombay’s rise from colonial port to cultural metropolis.

Organised thematically, the sale reveals the many ways the city has been seen, imagined, and reinvented—by artists, cartographers, and photographers who captured its commerce, communities, and charisma. Yeh Hai Bombay Meri Jaan is both a tribute and a rediscovery: a portrait of Bombay as muse, memory, and metaphor.
