ABSOLUTE TUESDAYS: ALONG THE SILK ROUTE - WORKS FROM THE DANNY MEHRA COLLECTION (13 JUNE 2023)

This Tuesday, for a window of 12 hours, StoryLTD presents Absolute Tuesdays: Along the Silk Route, an auction featuring a selection of 19th and 20th century carpets made by indigenous communities residing in the region of the Silk Route. Part of the collection of carpet and textile enthusiast, Danny Mehra, the 60 lots in this auction include handwoven carpets from the Caucasus mountains, Kurdistan, Persia, and Central Asia, and offer a rare glimpse into the rich culture of this area.

Mehra developed an interest in acquiring carpets upon receiving one as a wedding gift from his mother-in-law in the mid-80s. Organic curiosity and admiration ushered him towards growing his collection of textiles, most of which have been crafted by nomadic communities of Iran, Anatolia, Central Asia, Caucasus, the Balkans, and Kurdistan. Mehra’s carpets range from the 18th to the 20th century and are sourced from auctions, thrift stores, markets as well as other collectors. These carpets carry history through iconography, weaving techniques, and materials which allude to their region and community specificity, making them timeless heirlooms.

The auction includes both Reserve and No Reserve lots. Take a chance and bid on these lots between 8 am - 8 pm IST.
