ABSOLUTE TUESDAYS: RARE ART BOOKS (18 JANUARY 2022)

This Tuesday, StoryLTD brings you Absolute Tuesdays: Rare Art Books, an auction offering an extensive collection of rare and unusual books on modern and contemporary Indian art spanning a period of 100 years. The sale encompasses limited edition books and portfolios, volumes, exhibition catalogues (a few signed by artists), elusive journals and magazines, as well as art publications in the vernacular. Along with Raja Ravi Varma, Nicholas Roerich, Amrita Sher-Gil, Ismat Chughtai and a large gamut of Bengal School artists beginning with the three Tagores, the collection covers nearly all the artists of modern India including Ram Kumar, S H Raza and Akbar Padamsee and some lesser-known ones such as S G Thakur Singh. In addition, there are pre-1947 art journals published in Calcutta and Bombay, often found mentioned only in academic footnotes, including journals like Modern Review, Roopalekha, Lalit Kala Contemporary, Lalit Kala Monographs and Times of India Annuals.
