Born in New Delhi in 1967, Ajay Rajgarhia studied at the University of Rochester???s William E. Simon Graduate School of Business Administration. He first took up investment banking, and then opened his own garment factory, working with top designers. Disenchanted with corporate life, he began a search that led him to photography.
Rajgarhia???s work mirrors the restless energy that compels him to travel and constantly search for ???that perfect moment???. He is inspired by what others might consider mundane and forgotten, and is endlessly curious about the story not told. His photographs evoke the balance between light and shade, figure and form, man and nature. He has begun working with video art to complete the unfinished stories captured in still photography. Rajgarhia???s work has been exhibited in several shows, including ???Three Tier???, ???The Other Side???, and ???India Art Summit 2008???, all at Wonderwall, New Delhi, in 2007-08; ???Art Beat???, at The Shrine Gallery, New Delhi, 2008; ???Harvest 2008???, at Arushi Art Gallerly, New Delhi, 2008; and ???Popular Reality???, at Seven Art Limited, Dubai, in 2008. His work was also featured in Bangkok in 2008 at PhotoARTAsia Expo. More recent group shows that featured his work include ???Go???.take a walk???, presented by Apparao Infinity in Chennai in 2009; ???Behind the Lens??? at Mahua ??? The Art Gallery, Bangalore, in 2009; ???India Art Summit 2009???, presented at Wonderwall in New Delhi, in 2009; ???Anniversary Show???, at Sanskriti Art Gallery, Kolkata, 2009; ???Freedom??? at Nvya Gallery, New Delhi, 2010; ???India Art Summit 2011??? at Wonderwall, New Delhi, 2011; and ???Memories of Another Day???, presented at Wonderwall, New Delhi, in 2011. His works are a part of many private collections in India and abroad. The artist lives and works in New Delhi.
