This book is in continuation to the author’s first novel titled Indian Fairy Tales, published in 1946.

It is a collection of Indian folk tales that are vividly illustrated and retold by the Indian writer Mulk Raj Anand from the recollections of his childhood.

The illustrations consist of a variety of full-page and in-text illustrations, created by a diverse group of illustrators, including cover page by Jamini Roy, Chittaprasad (7), Usha Rani (1), M F Husain (1), Shivax Chavda (1), Sheila Auden (2), K K Hebbar (1), D G Kulkarni (1), and Revindran (1).

They are accessible to both children and adults who have not forgotten how to be children.

Mulk Raj Anand (1905-2004) was a pioneer of Indo-Anglian fiction, known for his portrayal of the lives of the impoverished castes in Indian society. He was among the first Indian writers to establish an international readership.
