The present lot is a fine, high-quality Kalighat painting showing a four-handed Ganesha, seated on a throne. His vehicle, commonly known as ‘mooshika’, is also depicted quietly tucked away below the seat. A yellow and red aureole surrounds the head. The colour combination of red, grey and yellow gives the painting a vibrant appearance. A similar painting is part of the South & South East Asia Collection at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
