A magnificent minimal composition prayer carpet from Central Anatolia, probably from the Karapinar area. The five-pointed central panel is drawn in a beautiful red mihrab shape containing, at its core, a series of concentric stepped lozenges representing the diamond-shaped eye to ward off evil spirits. A sap green outer panel surrounds the red mihrab and is randomly filled with objects of reverence and devotion, including a pair of water pitchers to perform ablutions before entering the sacred prayer area of a mosque. A simple narrow, red border frames the overall devotional composition.
