A remarkably beautiful Caucasian Gendje carpet, probably the product of a semi-settled weaving tribe working in a village workshop setting. The field is composed with a number of vertical stripes, each of which is adorned with paisley boteh or paisley patterns that are sometimes said to have been derived from old shawl compositions. The central panel is framed with three concentric narrow borders containing rosettes and talismanic icons.
