Roger Federer is a professional tennis player with a record 20 Grand Slam men's singles titles to his name, including 8 Wimbledon titles - more than any other male tennis player. The Swiss athlete started playing tennis at the age of 8, and has been playing professionally since 1998. Federer held the ATP world number one spot for 310 weeks, and is also one of only eight men to achieve a Career Grand Slam in the men's singles category. He founded the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003, which supports children's education programmes in Switzerland and six countries in southern Africa. According to the Foundation's official website, "The programmes on the African continent focus on the improvement of the quality of early learning and basic education, and in Switzerland on the promotion of extra-curricular activities for children affected by poverty. All activities are realised and implemented by local non-governmental authorities in close collaboration with the local communities."
