a) Mukul Dey, Exhibition of Drawings Paintings Engravings Pottery and Leatherwork by Sir Rabindranath Tagore, 1932

pp. 34 + 21 plates including 6-page foreword by Mukul Dey, 6-page price list of 265 exhibits by Tagore [Rs 50 to Rs 1,250] and 17 by his son Rathindranath Tagore and daughter-in-law Pratima Devi at the end; recently bound in half-leather. Front cover bound in but trimmed and worn. Everything complete including illustrations. Last 2 or three pages and the plate at the end soiled and with insignificant pinholes.

This is a catalogue of Rabindranath Tagore’s first ever solo exhibition held in India at Government School of Art, Calcutta, in February 1932. Flyleaf publicizing portfolio TWENTY-FIVE LINOCUTS by Rani Dey [Mukul Dey’s sister] tipped-in on back of cover. The portfolio was released by Tagore on the occasion of this exhibition.

A rare and curious publication dedicated to Generalissimo Chiang Kai-Shek and Madame Chiang Kai-Shek. The book is a record of the speeches, messages and lectures delivered in Calcutta and China on the occasion of the presentation to the Chinese government of Rabindranath Tagore’s portrait made by artist Ramendranath Chakravorty. The effort was sponsored by no less than 8 maharajas listed in the book.

The contents include an essay on Visva-Bharati Cheena-Bhabana by a Chinese scholar, Tagore and Sino-Indian Collaboration [Kalidas Nag], Tagore and China [Leonard K. Elmhirst], Tagore’s letters to Japanese poet Noguchi, and Tagore in Far Eastern Press.
