The Folio Society is known for producing attractively illustrated and bound editions of classic works.

Although Herbert George Wells (1866-1946) also wrote in other genres such as history and politics, he is best known as a writer of Science Fiction (SF). In 2004, The Folio Society published three of his best known SF novels: The Time Machine (1895), The Invisible Man (1897) and War of the Worlds (1898). The present title is one from the same.
