Patachitras were the earliest known form of audio visual art. Scenes normally from the epics or local folk legends were depicted frame by frame on paper backed by cloth in a scroll form. These were then presented to the audience through a bard singing the scenes from the legends and the artist simultaneously unrolling the scroll. However these days the artists have also started depicting contemporary events such as the tsunami, bombing of the World Trade Center etc.
