Written by John Briley and produced and directed by Richard Attenborough, Gandhi focuses on the life of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, played by Sir Ben Kingsley. It was nominated in eleven categories during the 55th Annual Academy Awards, and won eight Oscars including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Actor.
