Directed by Govind Nihalani, the film stars Om Puri, Amrish Puri, Smita Patil, Naseeruddin Shah, and Sadashiv Amrapurkar. Famed Marathi playwright Vijay Tendulkar wrote the screenplay for the film. It won seven awards, including five Filmfare awards, and is still considered a landmark Indian film.
