Mother India is a melodrama directed by Mehboob Khan starring Nargis, Sunil Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Raaj Kumar. An epic film, it tells the story of a poverty stricken woman played by Nargis and the many hardships she needs to deal with in her life. Her character mirrored the popular notion of an ideal Indian woman- living with high moral values and an inherent quality of self-sacrifice.
