About K G Subramanyan - Limited Edition Serigraphs

K.G. Subramanyan has played many roles: painter, sculptor, weaver, muralist, toy maker, children’s story writer and illustrator, art historian and teacher. The 2012 Padma Bhushan winner has explored multifaceted art forms, from early artisanal works in glass painting to his famous terracotta murals, successfully.
Wit and eroticism are the hallmarks of Subramanyan’s art, and evident in this collection of limited edition silk screen prints. Man and woman face each other intimately, traversing modern and tribal settings alike, while a woman looks coquettishly over her shoulder amid an excess of romantic colours. Fierce goddesses in colourful splendour appear with just as much gusto as a recurring sly, motif of dogs and horned goats.
K.G. Subramanyan’s folksy themes are just one aspect of his life’s work, earning him appreciation as one of India’s pioneering Modern artists.
