Description

This charming painting portrays a famous scene from the ancient Indian epic, the Ramayan: the exiled divine Prince Ram, accompanied by his wife Sita and loyal brother Lakshman, being ferried across the river Ganga, by the humble boatman, Kevat. Overwhelmed by the honour, Kevat pays obeisance to Ram with folded hands and gets his blessing. The work is notable for its beautiful combination of colours, the dramatic boat decked with floral motifs, the rippling waters with fish and the intricate border combining fish and geometric motifs. (Detailed write-up on theme and artist will be received by buyer)
