About Limited Editions Serigraphs by M F Husain

“A print is for people with more taste than money.”—M. F. Husain.

One of the oldest forms of print-making, serigraphy or silk-screen painting involves fixing an ink-blocking stencil onto a woven mesh fabric to reproduce an image.
In India, serigraphy was considered to have less value than original paintings, and deemed commonplace because they could be mass-produced. Husain fought against this dichotomy; his vision was to disseminate his art to everyone, and break down hierarchies within the elite rubric of the art world.
Like many of his contemporaries, Husain probed into his Indian roots, using various themes of folk, tribal and mythological art, while welcoming diverse, experimental styles of painting. From the Mother Teresa series to his Horse series, Husain has made his major works available in the serigraph format.
