Description

This unusual canvas, in rich oranges, browns and greens, is a detailed narrative of 'Rahu Puja', the elaborate community worship of the planet-deity Rahu, engaged in by the Paswans, a watchman/agricultural labourer caste of Mithilanchal. Small stylised tattoo figures of devotees, led by the main worshipper (Bhagat), believed to be imbued with the spirit of the awesome deity, engage in various daredevil feats like walking through fire and climbing a ladder of swords, in honor of their god, Rahu, who looks on from the sky above. (Detailed write-up on theme and artist will be received by buyer)
