This set comprises 31 artist monographs from the National Lalit Kala Akademi's renowned set of pocket books, the 'Contemporary Indian Art Series'. First published in 1931 to popularize the work of India's painters, sculptors and printmakers, it now includes over sixty titles in English and Hindi. Dating from 1983 to 2000, some of the artists represented in this set are Biren De, Prodosh Das Gupta, Dhanraj Bhagat, Jehangir Sabavala, V.S. Gaitonde, Pilloo Pochkhanawala (the first monograph published in a larger format with a more comprehensive introduction and larger plates), Somnath Hore, Nicholas Roerich, Chittaprosad , Kanwal Krishna and Devyani Krishna, J. Swaminathan and Gurcharan Singh. The set also includes four more recent artist portfolios with introductions and 8 to 10 colour plates each, which may be framed and displayed.
